Brunei Darussalam through the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU between the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of the Republic of Philippines on Agricultural and Fisheries Cooperation. The MoU Signing took place in Manila, Republic of Philippines.
Signing on behalf of His Majesty's government was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doktor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism. While the Government of the Republic of Philippines was represented by His Excellency Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Junior, Secretary of the Philippine Department of Agriculture. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Her Excellency Megawati binti Dato Paduka Haji Manan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Philippines.
The MoU Signing Ceremony was held while the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism attended the 47th Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry and related meetings. The MoU will benefit both countries by allowing an increase in cooperation and effective information sharing in agriculture and fisheries sectors; develop capacity and improve human resource capabilities. The increase in market access and investment in agriculture and fisheries sectors will encourage private sector involvement, apart from increasing the country's competitiveness and export capability, as well as diversifying the country's economic variety.
